9 to 5 Dilemma: The Scope Creep Squeeze.
Start Thinking About Your Wins Now.
Upcoming Events! Let’s hang.
Dollyism.
We’re in the thick of it.

Layoffs are up 140% compared to this time last year, with companies cutting tens of thousands of jobs month over month. And while AI is being positioned as the solution that will “make work easier,” right now it’s mostly fueling the already pressured work environment as organizations are trying to squeeze the last drops out of their teams before AI can take on more work.
That’s why so many people are feeling like they’re catching responsibilities falling from everywhere. The weight is real.
Reframe: You Are Your Own Business
Here’s the mindset shift: you are a business.
Your skills, experience, and expertise are your product. Your time is your currency. The company you work for is your current client.
And just like any good business owner, you have the right (and responsibility) to review your scope of work.
When It’s Time for a Scope Review
Pay attention to the signals:
You’re consistently putting in unpaid hours to keep up.
Your well-being, health, or personal life are paying the cost.
Your actual priorities are slipping through the cracks because of overflow.
You can’t remember the last time you said “no.”
When these show up, it’s time to pause and ask:
Is my company in a position to offer more resources or compensation?
Is the market paying more for my skills right now?
Are there other roles that better fit my expertise and values?
How to Have the Conversation
Boundaries are great, but if the dominoes are already falling, a simple “I can’t take this on” usually isn’t effective. Instead, lead with clarity and impact:
Try this:
“Here’s where I’m driving the most impact. These are the additional areas I’ve taken on that fall outside my original scope. What can we reprioritize, reassign, or resource differently?”
This approach shows you’re solution-oriented, highlights your value, and creates space for a realignment instead of silence.
My Takeaway
Your career isn’t a test of how much you can carry without breaking. It’s about how well you can market your value, advocate for scope that matches your worth, and make clear-eyed decisions about when it’s time to renegotiate… or step toward something new.
You’re a business. And businesses that thrive are the ones that know their value, protect their resources, and adjust when the contract no longer makes sense.

Tactical Tip: Turning Your Wins Into Impact
Most people don’t think about tracking accomplishments until they have to: when they’re updating a resume, facing a performance review, or sitting down to prep for an interview. By then, the details are fuzzy, the numbers are gone, and the story doesn’t do you justice.
That’s why I built the Wins & Impact GPT to help you capture your wins in real time, refine them into market-ready language, and make sure you never undersell yourself again.
Memory fades. That late-night email praising your leadership? The cost savings you delivered on your last project? Gone by the time review season rolls around.
Impact is currency. Companies don’t pay you for “responsible for”—they pay for outcomes. If you can’t articulate them, you leave money and opportunity on the table.
Your story builds over time. When you track consistently, patterns emerge that tell you exactly what you’re best at and how you create value. That becomes your career narrative.
How to Use the GPT
Here’s a simple rhythm you can build:
1️⃣ Log Your Win
At the end of each week, answer three prompts:
What problem did I solve?
What result came from it (numbers, ripple effect, outcome)?
Who noticed or benefited?
👉 Drop those raw notes into the Wins & Impact GPT. Even half-sentences work!
2️⃣ Turn Notes Into Bullets
The GPT will translate your messy thoughts into polished, one-sentence impact bullets that ready for your resume, LinkedIn, or performance review.
❌ Responsible for managing client accounts
✅ Increased Fortune 500 client retention by 22% by building proactive account outreach through targeted emails.
3️⃣ Spot Your Themes
Feed in multiple wins over time. The GPT can help you identify repeating patterns (e.g., “I keep showing up as the person who improves processes” or “I drive measurable growth in every role”). That’s your unique value proposition.
4️⃣ Repurpose With Ease
When it’s time to:
Refresh your resume → pull bullets directly from the GPT output
Prepare for a performance review → copy/paste your best “receipts”
Practice interview answers → use the GPT to reframe your wins into clear PAR-style stories
You’ll already have a bank of material written in the kind of language that gets noticed.

When to Use It
Day-to-day career management → build confidence in your value
Performance cycles → advocate for raises, promotions, resources
Job search → create resumes and LinkedIn profiles that tell a clear story
Networking → confidently answer “So what do you do?” with evidence
You wouldn’t run a business without tracking sales or outcomes, so why run your career that way?
Your Wins & Impact GPT is your built-in system: capture the raw material, refine it into compelling language, and build a story that makes your value impossible to ignore.
✨ Try it this week. Take one accomplishment, however small, drop it into the tracker, and let the GPT shape it into something that reminds you just how much you’re bringing to the table.

September Walk & Talk: What’s Your Character?
Wednesday, September 10 at 12 pm EST
Our brains are constantly sorting.
To make sense of the people around us, we create shortcuts: the reliable one, the fixer, the critic, the idea generator.
At work, those shortcuts become our character we play. They’re not always fair or complete, but they’re powerful. And once they stick, they can open or close doors.
This month’s Walk & Talk is about becoming more intentional in how your “character” shows up:
Are people experiencing you the way you want to be known?
What traits do you lean on most under stress?
Where might others be filling in the blanks about you in ways that don’t match your true strengths?
You can’t stop your brain (or anyone else’s) from categorizing, it’s human. But you can influence the story they attach to you.
What We’ll Do
Using the 3-2-1 model:
3 ideas about how “character” gets formed at work
2 reflection questions to test how others may be categorizing you
1 action to start closing the gap between perception and intention
Grab your earbuds, take a walk, and join me. We’ll unpack the characters we carry and practice showing up as the version we actually want to be.
